Patio Furniture

Your Guide to a More Beautiful Outdoor Area

When choosing your patio furniture for your patio or deck you should choose the style that works best with the style of your house: contemporary, traditional, or transitional. Choose furniture pieces that are functional for your outdoor needs, considering the number of pieces necessary, and the size of your patio or deck. Consider colors and finishes on frames, cushions or fabrics, and the visual appeal they create to ensure the right look for your patio or deck and home.

Most aluminum patio furniture is made from hollow aluminum tubing which is shaped into the desired frame, then a tough baked-on powder finish is applied. Finishes come in a large selection of colors and textures, and will withstand most climates without chipping, cracking or peeling. There is a huge selection of strap colors, and fabrics for pieces that need cushions.

Wrought iron furniture is available in designs ranging from contemporary to traditional. Iron furniture is very durable, however, if it has not been properly coated by the manufacturer and maintained by the consumer it will eventually rust. Maintain your wrought iron furniture by washing it with soap and water, then applying a liquid wax at least two to three times a year.

Resin furniture is quite durable, but mostly contemporary in style. Since the pieces are made from molded plastics, the surfaces are hard, and will require the use of cushions for comfort. There are many color choices for resin furniture, including bright dramatic colors, that could give your patio or deck just that punch it may need.

Wood patio or deck furniture is available in pine, teak, oak and redwood and can be stained, naturally oiled, or painted. Wood furniture is not as durable over the years as aluminum, iron or resin, and may require refinishing in time to keep its original finish looking new.

Wicker and rattan provides a wonderful look for outdoors. Because wicker can be damaged by direct exposure to the elements, it may need some shelter. Quality wicker feels smooth without splinters, and the pattern is consistently tight and uniform. All-weather wicker is made from aluminum with special coatings that are made for outdoor use, but it looks just like real wicker. It is ideal for the patio or deck.
