Patio Awning
Your Guide to a More Beautiful Outdoor Area
A patio can be a great extension of a home and its living spaces, if one knows how to work with what patios offer. The same goes for a deck , which can provide a family with an amazing outdoor living space. The only disadvantage of decks and patios as outdoor living spaces is that they sometimes do not offer enough protection from the sun.

One solution to this dilemma is to combine a patio and awnings . A patio awning is a great way to utilize that outdoor space, while also adding a unique comfort level usually associated with the indoors. Now I know what you may be thinking, “Aren’t patio awnings those bulky, oddly colored canvases my parents and grandparents had covering their patios?!” And my answer to that would be both yes and no.
Awnings have come quite a long way from the 50’s and 60’s versions. Although their function has not changed, the appearance and applications certainly have. Awnings now come in a multitude of different sizes, styles, and colors, depending on the specific wants and needs of a homeowner and their patio or deck. No longer are homeowners slaves to the funky color ways so reminiscent of those storefront awnings of our childhood.
And much like the new colors, patio awnings have been graced with some newer technologies and features. Unlike the somewhat cumbersome awnings of yesteryears, today’s patio awnings present the option of a fully mechanized and automatic retraction system, allowing the homeowners to choose when they want the awning’s shade or when they would like to bask in the sunlight. This is an especially attractive option for those of us who are not professional bodybuilders, though most awning systems are surprisingly light and easy to retract manually.
Transforming that tired out patio or deck into an outdoor space is perhaps easier than most think. And as important as caring for the outdoor elements of the living space, one should also consider those indoor pieces of the puzzle that are visible from the outside. Replacement windows, perhaps dressed with curtains and drapes can help carry that fresh new look from outside in, and vice versa, as well as take advantage of savings from energy efficient windows.
