Finding the right stones to fit your home does require some planning and discussion. Both color and shape will make a difference between a successful improvement of your home and an unattractive disaster. Pavers come in different colors, sizes and shapes that can be configured in many different ways.
No matter where you plan to install your pavers a good foundation is the key to a successful project. Pavers, whether around a swimming pool, on a deck, under a patio awning or as a front or garden path, must have a solid level foundation to sit on. Generally a good start will begin with a sand base, usually mixed with a dry concrete to glue the pavers in place. Before you begin with laying the foundation, figure out the design and pattern for your pavers, or bricks. Color and shape should always be a major consideration in the layout and design of the pattern. Specially cut stones are available for circular and mosaic patterns.
Basic bricks can be purchased at most larger home centers, with some providing design assistance to the homeowner. A simple ring of pavers around a tree in the front yard, an entire sidewalk of bricks to the front door or a simple deck of pavers under a patio awning are all affordable options that can be installed by the homeowner. Always start simply, especially if you are taking on the project without professional help. All home centers will advise you, once you decide on your pattern, how many bricks you will need to complete the project. Always add 15% to the total you need, for breakage and design modifications. Adding pavers for curb appeal to your home is an excellent, economical way to increase the value and attractiveness of your home.
