While it is easy to change bathroom accessories, bathroom sinks and vanities should coordinate with existing bathroom tiles, bathroom tubs and Jacuzzis that will not be replaced. Vanities come in many colors and sizes. Get samples of colors so you can look at them next to bathroom tiles and fixtures you will not replace. Most vanities are made out of wood or laminates. Use bathroom accessories such as door knobs and display items to coordinate the vanity with the style of your bathroom.
Bathroom sinks come in many colors, styles, and shapes. If your other fixtures are white and you choose a white sink, ensure that the whites match or choose a complementary color instead. You also need to decide whether you want a sink that sets in to your vanity or a vessel sink that sits on top of the vanity. If you choose a vessel bathroom sink, you should consider:
- The room you need between a swinging mirror to clear the bathroom sink
- the length of the faucet which must be high enough to reach the bathroom sink
- the location of the faucet
When selecting the your sink or vanity countertop, you need to decide on the material you want. Countertops for vanities are commonly made from: granite, laminate, stone, slate, marble, formica and ceramic tile. Bathroom sinks are made out of porcelain, solid surfaces, marble, glass, and other materials. When choosing a bathroom sink consider:
- how it coordinates with the materials of your fixtures and tiles
- whether the material will chip or scratch
- the ease of cleaning the material
